HP ENVY 7100 e-All-in-One Printer Reviews- The HP ENVY 7100 printer uses only two ink cartridges, one black and one multi-color (the other three standard ink colors: cyan, magenta, and yellow). HP's price and yield-based operating costs for its large capacity cartridges are 6 cents per page monochrome and 16 cents per page of color, but this only holds if you were to purchase the cartridges individually. Customers can reap considerable savings by registering for the HP Instant Ink program. As a point of comparison, the Canon PIXMA TS8020 's operating costs are considerably lower, to 4.1 cents for black pages and 12.7 cents for color pages. The photo expression XP-860 's costs are also lower, 4 cents per page monochrome and 15.5 cents per page color. With instant ink, HP users can dramatically undermine these color costs.

The instant ink program is a three-tier plan that offers up to 50 pages per month for $2.99 per month, up to 100 pages per month for $4.99, and up to 300 pages per month for $9.99 and these rates hold even if you were exclusively printing in Color. The printer detects when you are running low on ink and automatically controls more. Unused pages are ironed, and additional pages can be had for 15 pages per dollar in the base plan, 20 pages per dollar in the mid-level plan, and 25 pages per dollar in the 300-page plan. For the frequent print plan of $9.99, the cost per page (monochrome or color) is 3.3 cents. For the lowest-end plan, costs increase to 6 cents per page, which is still a considerable saving for color printing on its cost to buy ink without instant ink subscription as well as on other color costs Printers mentioned here.

The output quality was a mixed bag, with medium text, graphics a tad below par, and photos slightly above average. Text should be fine for any commercial use, except for those like DTP applications that use very small fonts. The graphics should be good enough for school work or general business use, although I would draw the line to formal reports or handouts going to the people you need to impress. Many illustrations showed strips, a regular pattern of weak streaks. The background was not as bleak as we would like to see them.

The quality of the photo was a touch above the par. The colors were well saturated, vivid, and punchy-although in a couple of impressions they crossed the line in supersaturation, almost to the point of vivacity. The HP ENVY 7100 does very well in preserving the black and avoiding a hue in our monochrome photo test. In a couple of impressions, he could have done better in differentiating between subtle changes in shading. Most of our test impressions were of a quality that we expected from pharmacy impressions.
